--Writing Project #1: Personal Essay. The basic guidelines for our first project appear at Essay Assignment: Personal Experience. See, in particular, the "topic suggestions" toward the end of the page: coming up with a good topic idea is the first step. Please check back here Thursday night (August 28) for a few more details regarding length and deadlines. On Thursday I'll also be posting reading assignments in our texts (in addition to the essays I handed out Monday) that should help to get you thinking. Stay tuned!

--NOTES. Please read the postscript to this evening's class, posted at NOTES. Remember: September 1 is Labor Day, so our next class meeting will be on September 8. I'll post a brief preview of that class early next week.

ASSIGNMENTS and WRITING PROJECT (all related to Project #1, a personal essay) will be posted by Wednesday evening (Aug. 27).

--SYLLABUS. I've corrected the date for fall break on the syllabus: Oct. 13, not Oct. 11.

--EMAIL ASSIGNMENT. Since yesterday I've received emails from Phillip, Tanya, Drayton, Jessi, and Debbie. Thank you for replying so promptly!

READINGS. When I posted the reading assignments yesterday, I forgot to include the most important one: by Monday's class, please read the course syllabus and let me know if you have any questions.
--TEXTBOOKS. If you're still waiting for your textbooks to arrive, please get in touch with one of your class buddies (i.e., the people you exchanged phone numbers with on Monday evening) to see if you can borrow their books and/or make photocopies of the assigned readings before we meet on August 25.
