In reanalyzing my ad from Soft sheen- Carson from “Vibe” magazine; I first notice the large picture of the African American woman. She is very attractive and smiling she gives the allusion that using Soft sheen equates to happiness.

 The ethos of the picture confirms that using Soft sheen will not only lead to being beautiful, but to being happy as well. The phrase right under her face is that of ambiguity the speaker is not just talking about the color of her hair, she is also talking about the color of her skin. The duality of the quote is that there is a hair color for each individual, and the speaker is admonishing us to try one. The connotation of color is that of elegance and beauty in this ad. The speaker is implying that Soft sheen is for women of color, and will cause them to be happy and beautiful.

The logos of the ad is also demonstrated with the picture: It is apparent that the picture of the attractive lady persuades the audience to think that using Soft sheen will make you beautiful and happy.

The pathos of the ad appeals to black women. Black women want to look like this. Black women will be happier if they look like this. Black women will smile more and be pleased more if they look like this.

            I looked at an ad out of “Vibe” magazine. The style of magazine is an urban magazine with ties to the hip-hop modern urban music, and its artists. In the ad I looked at, it seems the attractive lady is also the speaker. The flow of the ad would be for us to first notice the lady, then to read the text below the ad. The product is emphasized last with the name appearing in large white letters on a colored background.

This article illustrates Aristotle’s three forms of rhetoric. The article captivates the reader first with the picture. The ethos, A young, attractive, African-American woman is shown smiling. The picture accentuates her hair. It appears she is tilting her head towards the reader, making eye contact and smiling at us. She seems to be classy yet simple in her beauty. She seems reputable for the hair product she endorses because here hair is well kept and styled.

            The article appeals to our pathos, with both the picture and the words. She is shown smiling, so she is happy. She appeals because she is attractive and we desire to be attractive, so women would want to look like her, also a man would want a woman that look like her.  It appears the lady in the ad is talking to us, by the quote to the bottom left; “It’s not just haircolor, it’s color that works for me.” She is endorsing a product that she is happy with because of the results, her hair is the result of the product. Because she is happy with the product, she is implying we will be happy because the product will produce the same results.

            With logos, or our logic the ad continues the appeal, if this product gives her these great results it will also do the same for the audience. The duality of the quote is that there is a hair color that works for each individual, and the quote is admonishing the audience to try one.
