MISSION

Lane Library=s mission is to provide integrated and interconnected library services to all of the faculty and students of Armstrong Atlantic State University regardless of the physical location of their classes. Lane Library is committed to eliminating the barriers to accessing library resources for our Aelectronic leaders/educators@ registered at off-campus and distance learning sites via Armstrong Atlantic State University. Toward this end, AASU is committed to providing the appropriate infrastructure to meet the needs of our distance education students.

POLICY

Off-campus/distance learning students and faculty currently enrolled /teaching at Armstrong Atlantic State University have privilege to the vast array of resources and services available through the Lane Library and as an integral part of the University of Georgia System.

Visiting AASU=s Lane Library B registered distance learners/educators are welcome to use our library materials, resources, and services on site. Circulation privileges apply as well to those presenting appropriate ID. During the semester, library hours are Monday-Thursday 7:30 a.m. B 11:00 p.m., Friday 7:30 a.m. B 5:00 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. B 7:00 p.m., and Sunday 12:00 noon B 11:00 p.m. Please call 912-927-5332 for when classes are not in session.

Area University System Libraries B as an AASU student/faculty, the libraries of other University System institutions are also open to the distance learner/educator. Check with the circulation department for local rules governing University System borrowers. Area university libraries are listed below.

Directions: The university main campus is at 2500 Walton Way between Arsenal Avenue and Katherine Street.

Augusta. Medical College of Georgia. Robert B. Greenblatt M.D. Library. Phone: (706) 721-3441. Hours: Mon B Thur 8:00 am B Midnight, Fri 8:00 am B 7:00 p.m., Sat 9:00 am B 5:00 p.m., Sun Noon B Midnight. Directions: The library is located off of Laney-Walker Blvd. Follow signs for the library.

 

Brunswick. Coastal Georgia Community College. Clara Wood Gould Memorial Library. Phone: (912) 264-7270. Hours: Mon B Thur 8:00 am B 11 p.m., Fri 8:00 am B 3:00 p.m., Sat 10:00 B 2:00 p.m., Sun 1:00 p.m. B 5:00 p.m. Directions: To get to Coastal Georgia Community College, take Highway 17 to 4th Street (in the northern part of Brunswick). Go approximately eight blocks west an 4th Street. The college will be on the right. Student parking is on the right, after you turn into the main entrance. The back of the library is on the left of the student parking lot.

Savannah. Savannah State University. Asa H. Gordon Library. Phone: (912) 356-2183. Hours: Mon B Thur 8:00 am B 11:00 p.m., Fri 8:00 am B 5:00 p.m., Sat Noon B 5:00 p.m., Sun 2:00 p.m. B 10:00 p.m. (Hours between quarters and during the summer will be restricted). Directions: The university is one mile south of Victory Drive at the intersection of Skidaway Road and LaRoche Avenue.

Savannah. Skidaway Institute of Oceanography. Library. Phone: (9l2) 598-2474. Hours: Mon B Fri 8:00 am B 4:30 p.m. (Library users are encouraged to call before driving to the Institute Library, since the library will be closed when the librarian is away). Location: At the end of McWhorter Drive, Skidaway Island, 17 miles south of Savannah, across from the University of Georgia Marine Extension Aquarium.

Swainsboro. East Georgia College. East Georgia College Library. Phone: (912) 237-7831 ext. 4224. Hours: Mon B Thur 8:00 am B 9:00 p.m., Fri 8:00 am B 5:00 p.m., Sat closed, Sun 2:00 p.m. B 5:00 p.m. Directions: From U.S. 1, traveling south turn right on Thigpen Road, follow signs. From U.S. 80, going north, turn left at Anderson Drive, follow signs.

Other university, public, and private libraries can be of use to the distance learner/educator as well.

 

AASU LIBRARY SERVICES

Email Reference Service B via AAsk a Librarian@ on the library=s homepage (www.library.armstrong.edu) for AASU=s off-campus/distance learning students/educators.

Electronic Reserves B faculty may put their class materials on reserve so that students may access them remotely via the WEB.

Article and Book Delivery B all off-campus/distance leaning course material requests not available from the Ahorne@ campus will bc processed and delivered through the Interlibrary Loan Department of Lane Library. These requests will be handled as expeditiously as possible using the most efficient mechanism of transmission/delivery possible. ILL uses a variety of advanced technological systems and services to assist in an efficient strategy of processing and delivery of these library materials for our off-campus/distance users. ILL uses predominantly the following systems/services to expedite the processing and delivery of requests: OCLC, CARL Uncover, CISTI, ARIEL, FAX, and UPS. Students/faculty may request that reproducible library documents (articles) be sent directly to them. Books will be sent to their Ahome@ campus library. Materials are supplied without charge to the eligible student or faculty member. ILL request forms are available from the Ahome campus@ library and can be submitted there or they may be submitted electronically (see below).

Remote Access to AASU=s Interlibrary Loan Request Forms B available via Lane Library=s home page at www.library.armstrong.edu   Select ORCA and then select #3 to submit an Interlibrary Loan request for library materials not available from the Ahome campus.@

Current teaching faculty may also initiate acquisition requests to purchase essential library materials for use by their students in their required coursework These curriculum support materials will be made available at the participating campus library or home library, depending on the faculty member=s preference. Faculty should submit these acquisition requests to either, the library director responsible for the program/curriculum support, or, the library directors= of the participating institutions.
