Irish Music
Students enrolled in the Irish Studies Program may pick up a
free CD sampler of contemporary Irish pop, rock, and folk music (in MP3 format) from Dr.
Nordquist (nordqudi@mail.armstrong.edu)
in Solms 211 any time after May 3, 2006.
"The Irish went out and rescued and rediscovered their music in the 1950s and
1960s, at a time when this precious tradition seemed to be in decline, under threat from
the modern changes in society. Since then the revival has gathered pace, and today
the music is everywhere--fiddlers in village pubs, solo singers of sad ancient airs, stout
matrons gathering for bouncy ceili dances; and scores of summer festivals large and
small." (277)
(John Ardagh, Ireland and the Irish, 1995)
