Programs

Located in suite 211 of Solms Hall, the Office of Liberal Studies provides academic advisement for students in three degree programs: Associate of Arts (AA), Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BLS), and Master of Arts in Liberal and Professional Studies (MALPS). The office is staffed by a director, Dr. Richard Nordquist, a degree program assistant, Ms. Peggy Williams, and three student assistants.

The primary mission of these three degree programs is to foster the ideals of a liberal education.

The Associate of Arts degree program provides a substantial liberal arts education as a base for upper-division specialization. Most students who graduate from Armstrong with an Associate of Arts degree eventually go on to pursue a baccalaureate degree.  AASU's Associate of Arts degree is also available through the Liberty Center in Hinesville, Georgia.  For further information, call Dr. Joseph Weaver at the Fort Stewart Army Education Center, (912) 767 0819.

The Bachelor of Liberal Studies is a multi-disciplinary program emphasizing breadth of learning in the arts and sciences. It is designed primarily for mature students who have already established a career path and whose educational objectives are intellectual growth and personal enrichment. The Liberal Studies Program is also appropriate for students who plan to pursue graduate work in fields that encourage multi-disciplinary undergraduate study.  Working closely with an advisor, the Liberal Studies student prepares an individual program of study that is consistent with his or her expectations.  AASU's Bachelor of Liberal Studies is also available at the Liberty Center and at the Brunswick Center on the campus of Coastal Georgia Community College in Brunswick, Georgia.  For further information, call Dr. Gene Barber at (912) 262 7227.

The Master of Arts in Liberal and Professional Studies (MALPS) is designed for working professionals and recent college graduates who desire both personal enrichment and professional development through an innovative, interdisciplinary graduate program. In addition to taking four graduate core courses that focus on the values, research strategies, communication skills, and critical thinking skills required for personal growth and career advancement, students elect to follow one of three tracks: International Studies, Gender and Women's Studies, and Leadership Studies.

Advisement
